Pros

• Experimentally used for hot air balloons, but due to heat sensitivity, not very useful with fire/heat caused lift
• Micro-fibrous and very low permeability
• Incredibly durable and tear resistant
• Relatively Cheap

Cons

• Fusing via the usage of heat alone cause bad seals
  • Need to use a method of sealing that does not involve heat (Hot glue guns, heat sealers, chemical heat glue)
• This material is more on the heavy side, weighing in at about 70 grams per square foot

Weight

Tyvek weighs in at about 68 grams per square foot

Can it Balloon?

At first, I was a bit nervous after reading that Tyvek’s purpose to keep something in and others out. However, after looking more closely, the material shows a very promising result :

• Helium Dispersion Through HDPE
  • Does not actually work with Tyvek specifically, however, Tyvek is made of 100% recycled HDPE, so if Tyvek ends up too porous, there is always non-tinted (metal oxide) HDPE
• Tyvek Carryall-Envelope via FedEx
  • Fedex envelopes are made of Tyvek
• Bamboo/Tyvek Kite and Solar Balloon Construction workshop
  • Workshop that instructed the creation of Tyvek based weather balloons. Too bad I am about *looks at watch... 10 years late
